Basic principle:
> "The only way to get smarter is by playing a smarter Opponent".
- Fundamentals of Chess, 1883
Phon/ongod first asked me to write something for Pheverdreams a week or two ago. Despite being notoriously known as a highly opinionated individual;—at first, doing so did bring upon a certain hesitancy and reluctancy.
Such hesitation is rooted within the fact that whenever I do express my opinions(AFK or not), there is more often than not an underlying sense, a feeling, a general intuition; which I am somehow able to grasp from the audience…
Also, yes; most times I do commit the mistake of speaking at people instead of with or to them;—thus, the usage of the word 'audience' has been selectively chosen not only to exemplify and depict certain personality traits; but rather to further awareness of my own faults and misconceptions. Reiterating common misuse and a reoccurring miscomprehension to which I am unmistakably prone.
The conscious effort in doing so is not only an attempt to evolve the self, though also an effort to shed new light upon concepts such as: mistakes, failures, and errors.
You see;
> "Freedom means, basically, the freedom to make mistakes. The freedom to be a damn fool; and then not to recriminate within thyself when you do finally realize that it was a mistake;—but simply don't do it again(or at the very least, do it less often)"
- Alan Watts
Conscious activity is all about our inner, innate selectivity. That which we consciously choose to focus upon on a daily basis is that which construes, constitutes, designs, creates…practically gives birth to our everyday reality.
At the same time we consciously choose something over another, we also choose to overlook and leave out other aspects of reality.
However you'll come to find more often than not, these choices that shape our everyday reality are increasingly based upon either bias, fear or our ever-growing necessity to "thrive". Though, how can one actually manage to thrive(in every sense of the word); when one's choices and therefore, one's reality has been shaped by bias, fear and an utter lack of the insights and enlightenment made possible through failure and mistakes?
We have been conditioned to believe that failure goes beyond unacceptable and should actually be conceived of as shameful. Worst of it all, we reinforce such conditioning on a daily basis—choosing to leave out that which is uncomfortable, strenuous, tedious, inconvenient and especially that which requires effort and is demanding.
Behaviorists will argue that this is simply our natural state. Given the fact that both our bodies and our cerebral cortex have been hardwired to conserve energy; we avoid strain and complexity and stick to that which we regard as natural.
Realistically however, this is merely a smoke screen of false comfort, guided by false ideals and lacking complexity. Such practice degrades one's life, diminishes its light and therefore its power. Such practice is what secludes you from finding your self; true passion; desire, meaning;—only reinforcing the lackluster routine we find ourselves in.
Simply put: "The reason you want to be better is the reason why you aren't". This is because in all honesty we do not know what which choices we decide upon will lead to us improving. If we did, we'd already be improved in the first place. It is one's moral obligation, duty and personal responsibility to interfere with reality in order to ascend and uncover the joy which we've managed to either forget, for-go or shy away from.
The dawn of a new era is upon us and we (the so-called 'geeks' in crypto, who have been sitting at our computers for years) stand at the forefront of web3. However, the responsibility before us is truly immense.
Historically, with every new advancement in technology, communications; every new media outlet; and every innovation which has been put forward by our predecessors; those at the forefront chose: duplication or renovation; replication or improvement and reconditioning. The latter requires not only conscious desire and effort but the willingness to commit mistakes and learn from them.
(As a final note, for the skeptics, bear in mind: George Orwell wrote 1984 in 1949.)
